GAZPROM executives meet people behind OILTEAM-RGU joint educational project

12.07.2014

On 3 and 4 July 2014 OILTEAM’s OGE Academy hosted a historic visit by the high-ranking delegation from Gazprom, world’s largest natural gas producer. Gazprom delegation consisted of Vadim Petrenko, Head of Directorate of Technique and Technology for Offshore Field Development, and Andrey Suetinov, Gazprom Dobycha Shelf, Chief Engineer, First Deputy Director General.

The visit aimed to further Gazprom’s appreciation of the competence-based training programmes delivered by OGE Academy for offshore engineers. Gazprom and OILTEAM executives discussed future cooperation in personnel development for offshore production; this was followed by a tour around the premises of the training engineering cluster which includes the existing offices and classrooms, as well as the projected infrastructure that is now being completed to accommodate future expansion of the training facility.

Most importantly, Gazprom representatives met the team behind this ambitious project. The meeting was attended by OILTEAM CEO dr. Vladimir Lavrov, first deputy director Gennady Nalimov, STC OILTEAM director Slava Terentyev, OILTEAM’s GazInformPlast director Nikolay Strizhov and OGE Academy principal prof. Konstantin Fedorov. The introduction to the team would have been incomplete without meeting OILTEAM’s partners – providers of the engineering competencies so acutely wanted by Russian offshore industry. Thus, representing the foreign partners were the independent HR expert Paul McMorran (Belfast, Ireland); prof. John Watson, RGU, Dean of Faculty of Design and Technology; Donella Beaton, RGU, Head of New Business; and Stuart Bell, Penspen Limited, General Manager and Head of Offshore Engineering (Aberdeen, Scotland).

Paul McMorran made a presentation titled “Global and Russian Experience in Developing Young Professionals for Offshore Oil and Gas ” stressing how important it is for the young professionals to be trained as part of multi-disciplinary project teams and to subsequently acquire all relevant international certificates and permits – precisely the kind of opportunities offered by OGE Academy.

Prof. John Watson and Donella Beaton highlighted RGU’s links to the global oil and gas industry and  experience in creating customized training programmes for the professionals that feature realistic DART (Drilling and Advanced Rig Training)simulator facility and access to real offshore structures. Prof. Watson emphasized that RGU is prepared to increase training support for Russian offshore sector through OILTEAM and OGE Academy.

Stuart Bell made a detailed presentation about Penspen’s proven track record of providing engineering services at all stages of offshore projects, from feasibility study and FEED to assets integrity and decommission. This valuable experience is now accessible to the new generation of Russia’s offshore professionals through Penspen and OILTEAM joint professional development programme that will place trainees on real offshore projects in Russia and all over the globe.

After discussing the issues of competence-base training Vadim Petrenko and Andrey Suetinov conducted individual interviews with the future graduates of the MSc “Offshore Oil and Gas Engineering” with a view to potentially employing them in Gazprom and affiliated companies.
